How to solve a word wheel
- Type every letter on the wheel, including the one in the middle. Order doesn’t matter.
- Put the middle letter in the Centre box if your puzzle says every word must use it.
- Match your puzzle’s rules — most printed wheels want words of four letters or more, and many leave out plurals.
- Look for the highlighted nine-letter word first: once you have it, the shorter words come much more easily.
Word wheel questions
What is the centre letter rule?
In most printed word wheels, one letter sits in the middle of the wheel and every word you make must use it. Type that letter in the Centre box and the solver only shows words containing it. The centre letter still counts as one of your nine letters, so include it in the letters box as well.
How do I find the nine-letter word?
Enter all nine letters from the wheel. If they spell a nine-letter word, it appears at the top of the results in a highlighted box — that is usually the one word every word wheel hides.
Can it solve missing-letter word wheels?
Yes. Type a question mark for the blank tile — for example CHOC?LATE — and the solver tries every letter in its place. The highlighted answer shows which letter completes the nine-letter word.
Should plurals count?
That depends on the puzzle. Many printed word wheels exclude plurals ending in S, so tick “No plurals ending in S” to hide them. Words like GLASS or MOSS stay, because they aren’t plurals.
Which words does the solver know?
Over 34,000 everyday English words from three to nine letters, including British spellings such as COLOUR and CENTRE. It combines the curated WordSpin game dictionary with word-frequency data and a classic dictionary, with proper nouns and offensive words removed. Very rare or archaic words are left out on purpose, so some puzzle setters may accept a word the solver doesn’t show.
Is anything I type sent anywhere?
No. The whole dictionary loads into your browser and the search runs on your device. It works offline once the page has loaded.
